Sakai is a collaborative environment that can be used
to support research and project collaboration; that is, to create a Virtual Res
earch Environment.
A Sakai project site is highly customisable. Colleagues may be invited to join,
and access to various parts of the site may be as public or as private as is des
ired.
A variety of tools may be enabled, allowing activities such as file transfer; c
reation of wikis and blogs, discussion forums and announcements; scheduling and
calendars, and others.
These tools enable ready and rapid collaboration and communication between membe
rs of Project sites and, where desired, the public. Access is via a web browser,
so it is possible to maintain contact,
share information and work together even when travelling and away from the lab o
r office.
